The Cree Nation of Waswanipi, located close to James Bay, has vowed to fight against all forestry companies wanting to log inside the Boradback Valley. This area, located North of their ancestral land, is their last remaining undisturbed territory. Waswanipi Cree Nation’s land has been heavily impacted by the logging industry and now 90% of their territory has been either logged or fragmented. Recently, a new threat from logging companies has stirred strong mobilization in the community of Waswanipi and beyond. The industry plans the construction of two major access roads through the very heart of the Waswanipi Cree Nation’s ancestral territory, giving logging companies access to clear-cut the last intact portion of the forest. Public consultations on this highly controversial project began on January 19th, and already 8000 people signed a letter to the public hearings president via www, savethebroadback.ca asking for the project to be rejected.

Please join Member of Parliament, Romeo Saganash, as he shares stories about his early life on his ancestral territory of the Eeyou Nation of Waswanipi, and provides recommendations on how you can become involved in supporting the protection of the Broadback boreal forest.

Cosponsored by Boreal Action and the Winnipeg Indigenous Peoples Solidarity Movement.
